If you’ve not seen SAM PAYNE in concert recently “Zworry not’. This sometimes reclusive and mysterious bundle of leftfield dynamite has been busy of late in Bluescat’s Studio Phat recording facility working on a variety of projects.
Singer/songwriter and pianist Sam was thrust immediately into an intense recording schedule when she first signed with the Bluescat management and publishing firm and she’s already enjoyed three successful releases with ‘The Graceland Session’, ‘Sam’s Uforia’ and ‘Emily’.
Sam relishes recording but she’s not been totally confined to the studio. In her early years she enjoyed a successful residency at Ronnie Scott’s and has since toured extensively both as a solo artist and with various bands.

Dates have included Brighton Essential, Bath Fungus and Trowbridge Festivals. Club manager David Perry says.”With her virtually flawless technique and formidable voice she is able to deliver her music to her audiences so intently that it literally sends goose pimples up your arms . I’ve no doubt in my mind that Sam Payne is going to be a big star.

Radio stations throughout Continental Europe have been quick and keen to showcase Sam. “What grabs me about Sam is the feeling of power and reserve,” says Richard Foxcroft, regular contributor to one of France’s national stations. “The cool jazzy music has a harder undercurrent, mirroring the cutting edge of Sam’s slinky voice. Real talent doesn’t come along very often but Sam is the goods.”

Sam is currently working in Studio Phat with 21 St Century Nu Blues shaman Skip “Little Axe” McDonald. This gracious guitar player, songwriter and producer is at the helm contributing to the development of a fusion of R&B, hip-hop, jazz and funkd The album is a boiling pot of styles which is both cutting edge and extremely tasty. The new album titled ‘Unfinished Business’ features musicians Sam (vocals, piano), Skip ‘Little Axe’ McDonald (guitars), Earl Tutu (bass), Andy Marshall (drums), Inda Goldfinger (tablas, drones), Bongo Eddy (congas).
Paul Jones and his programme producer Richard Masters are recent converts to Sam’s unique talent. A live session on Paul’s Radio 2 programme ‘The Paul Jones R&B Show’ has been slated for this year. Sam is ready and will be hitting the tour road with a fistful of nu’ rare grooves...

Miss her and you'll miss out!!

Richard Hammond – bass guitars
