The new album

From her early days when she enjoyed a successful residency at Ronnie Scott's legendary jazz club, toured extensively both as a solo artist and featured band member playing Brighton Festival, the Mean Fiddler Bath Fringe and Trowbridge Festival, Sam Payne's musical journey has ended up in the most spectacular manner. Signed to Endomorph Publishing she had three releases: The Graceland Session', 'Sam's Uforia' and 'Emily' all of which had the "watch out for" flags popping up around the industry. Those who know or have heard this exceptional singer/musician had high expectations and Ms. Payne hasn't sold anyone short, in fact she has made an album of exceptional beauty - and there's still more! 'Liquid Emotion' features the musical and production skills of Nu Blues shaman Skip 'Little Axe' McDonald, one of modern music's great guitarists, producers, songwriters and, not least of all, innovators. The resulting album, recorded at 'Studio Phat, contains f* everything that Little Axe fans love, it's Skip at his best, blessed with Sam's outstanding vocals, graceful keyboard skills and a songwriting maturity that would seem far beyond her years.
'Liquid Emotion' travels through jazz, funk, R&B, hip hop, world music and blues, fusing them together in dynamic fashion. There's the smoky, nightclub sound of' "Roller Coaster' bringing to mind Billie Holiday, the arabesque chant 'Sioux1, the soul/funk of the opening track 'Travellin' On', the groove of the instrumental '(This World is in) a Hell of a Fix' with its haunting harmonica, rolling piano and jazz-fused guitar and the apocalyptic 'What If?' to name but few.
It seems as though mainland Europe hasn't been slow to appreciate Sam's talents. Anglophile Richard Foxcroft, a regular contributor to one of France's national stations, says, "What grabs me about Sam is the feeling of power in reserve. The cool jazzy music has a harder undercurrent, mirroring the cutting edge of Sam's slinky voice."

The editor of "Get Rhythm" wrote: "Since seeing Sam live a few years ago I've been tracking her career and 'Liquid Emotion' has turned out to be the album I wanted to hear from Sam. She's an exceptional talent."

If you've not seen Miss Sam Payne in concert recently, worry not!

This sometimes reclusive and mysterious bundle of leftfield dynamite has been busy of late in Studio Phat's recording facility working on a variety of projects. Singer/songwriter and pianist Sam was thrust immediately into an intense recording schedule when she first signed with Endomorph Music Publishing.

Sam relishes recording, but she's not been totally confined to the studio. In her early years she enjoyed a successful residency at Ronnie Scott's and has since toured extensively both as a solo artist and with various bands. Dates have included Brighton Essential, the Mean Fiddler, Bath Fringe and Trowbridge Festivals. Club manager David Perry says "With her virtually flawless technique and formidable voice she is able to deliver her music to her audiences so intently that it literally sends goose pimples up your arms". Radio stations throughout the UK and Continental Europe have been quick and keen to showcase Sam.

"What grabs me about Sam is the feeling of power in reserve", says Richard Foxcroft, regular contributor to one of France's national stations. “The cool jazzy music has a harder undercurrent, mirroring the cutting edge of Sam's slinky voice”.

Sam has been working in Studio Phat with 21st century Nu Blues shaman Skip "Little Axe" McDonald, the gracious guitar player, songwriter and producer who is at the helm contributing to the development of a fusion of R&B, hip hop, jazz and funk. Her new album is a boiling pot of styles which is both cutting edge and extremely tasty.

The album, entitled "Liquid Emotion", features musicians Sam (vocals, piano), Skip "Little Axe" McDonald (guitars), Bernard Alexander (bass), Andy Marshall (drums), Indar Goldfinger (tablas, drones) and Bongo Eddie (congas).
